SUN YU-CH'IN
Mr. Sun Yu-ch'in, also known as P'an Sheng, was born into a scholarly family in 1915 in Tang Shan in Heibei, China. He soon developed a profound respect for nature, as well as a love for literature, martial arts, music and painting. In 1936 in Tien-tsin he was introduced to Mr. T'ien Shou-nung by his cousin, who tutored him in guqin for three years. After his university education at the Chinese academy in Peking, majoring in politics and economics, he joined the army to fight against the Japanese invasion He moved to Taiwan with the army in 1950 and wasn't able to locate a guqin. Yet, he never forgot about it.
In 1960, he was introduced to a Zen Master who introduced him to qin virtuoso Chang Chih-sun, who he later became a disciple of. Sun Yu-ch'in absorbed all of his teacher's teachings and was given "Pine Winds Blowing through the Dragon Gate", his teacher's own guqin.
