CALLIGRAPHY

Introduction

Calligraphy is one of the highest art forms in Chinese culture. It is also one of the best practices to preserve good health. Utilizing the softest brush and the unrestrained medium of ink and water, calligraphy performs on paper all the traditional calligraphic styles and presents an expressionist contrast of black and white. When people perform calligraphy, their concentration leads to a steady breathing which in terms leads to the qi circulating around your body and culminating at the brush tip through your fingertips. This will achieve for you a pure state of mind. Many people with long lives have practiced calligraphy. This is the best proof for calligraphy’s healthy effects.

Zizen Calligraphy teaches you all the calligraphic styles of China, Chuan-shu (The Seal Script), Li-shu (The Clerical Style/Official Style), Kai-shu (The Standard Style), Hsing-shu (The Running Style) and Tsao-shu (The Cursive Style). The need to study all five calligraphic styles is necessary to achieve different states of mind and spirit and different levels of exercise for the body – all through the actions and textures of the brush.
